Sufyan Ath-Thawri
"Be patient at all times and in all places, for patience leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Paradise. Do not become angry and furious, for those two emotions lead to wickedness, and wickedness leads to the Hellfire." Sufyan Ath-Thawri
It is reported that there was a young man who was from the people of knowledge who used to put himself forward, speak and behave haughtily with his knowledge in front of those older than him. This angered Sufyan [Al-Thawri] and he said, “The Salaf were never like this; they never used to claim leadership, or sit at the head of the gathering until they had sought this knowledge for thirty years, and you act haughty in front of those who are older than you. Get up, I never want to see you even come close to my circle.” {Al-Bayhaqi, Al-Madkhal ila Al-Sunan Al-Kubra 2:74} |

Muhammad Ibn Idrees Ash-Shafi'ee
Imam ash-Shaafi`ee - rahimahullaah - said:
"The foolish one addresses me with words of disgrace, but I hate to respond to him in a similar manner. The more ignorant he proves, the more patient I become. Just like the incense; the more it's burnt, the more it releases its fragrance." |

Abdullah Ibn Al-Mubarak
Abdullah ibn al-Mubarak - rahimahullaah - said: "If you ever have time and find yourself in ease, then take advantage of prayer, to draw near to Allah; If you ever wish to speak ill a word of falsehood, then instead put in its place, a word of glorification; Because taking advantage of silence is better than speaking frequently, even if you are eloquent in speech." |
Muhammad Ibn Idrees Ash-Shafi'ee
Imam ash-Shaafi`ee - rahimahullaah - said:
"When it comes to my provisions, I rely upon Allah, my Creator; And I know with certainty that He will no doubt provide for me. Whatever’s in my due, will not pass me by, Even if it were to be in the depths of the sea. Allah the Exalted will bring it forth by His Grace, Even if I were to remain silent over it. So, what... can a soul feel sorrow over, When the Most Merciful has set the provisions of the creation?" |

Muhammad Ibn Idrees Ash-Shafi'ee
Imam ash-Shaafi`ee - rahimahullaah - said:
"By Allah, if I were told that even drinking cold water took away from my manhood, I would not drink it except while it was hot."

Malik Ibn Anas
Malik Ibn Anas - - rahimahullaah - said: “If I was given 99 reasons to declare a person deviant and one upholding their orthodoxy, I’d go with the latter!” |
Ibn Al-Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah
Ibn Al-Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah - rahimahullaah - said:
“Get yourself out of this limited world of diseases to the wide world of the hereafter, which has what the eyes have never seen. Nothing is impossible there, and love is not lost. O you who sold yourself for the sake of something that will cause you suffering and pain, and which will also lose its beauty, you sold the most precious item for the cheapest price, as if you neither knew the value of the goods nor the meanness of the price. Wait until you come on the Day of mutual loss and gain and you will discover the injustice of this contract. “There is no God but Allah” is something that Allah is buying. Its price is Paradise, and the Messenger is its agent, and you will be pleased to part with a small part of this worldly life to obtain it. The part you lose is a small part of something that as a whole is not worth a mosquito’s wing.” |

Muhammad Ibn Idrees Ash-Shafi'ee
Imaam ash-Shaafi`ee - rahimahullaah - said:
"To admonish your brother in private is to advise him and improve him. But to admonish him publicly is to disgrace and shame him." |
Imam al-Ghazzali
Imam abu Hamid al-Ghazzali - rahimahullaah - said:
"If the first inward thought is not warded off, it will generate a desire, then the desire will generate a wish, and the wish will generate an intention, and the intention will generate the action, and the action will result in ruin and divine wrath. So evil must be cut off at its root, which is when it is simply a thought that crosses the mind, from which all the other things follow on."
[Ihyaa Uloom al-Deen, 6/17] |

Ibn Al-Jawzi
Ibn Al-Jawzi, Rahimahullah, said: "Whenever a new matter is firmly based on a principle in Sharee`ah, it is acceptable. However, any innovation which attempts to complete some aspect of the religion, is wrong because it implies deficiency in the religion. And, if the innovation is one which is contradictory to the Sharee`ah, it is even worse." From: The Devil's Deception (Telbees Iblees) pg. 23 |
