Question: Does getting a nosebleed nullify the ablution and the prayer? I sometimes get nosebleeds during the prayer, so do I have to come out of the prayer to make wudu’ again or should I continue to pray?
Please advise us in this matter and may Allah reward you in the best way for your efforts to answer all the questions that your brothers in Islam send to you.
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful,
All praise is due to Allah, and may peace and blessing be upon the Messenger of Allah, upon his household, his companions and those who have followed him. To proceed:
The People of Knowledge have differed over this issue. Some of them held that both the ablution and the prayer are nullified by a nosebleed. Others held that it nullifies the ablution, but not the prayer, so one should come out of the prayer to renew his ablution, but he may build on [the part of] his prayer [which he prayed before the nosebleed came]. Still others held that it neither nullifies the ablution nor the prayer, unless it gets particularly bad and he cannot keep it under control. The best that can be said on the matter is that whoever gets a nosebleed during the prayer should slip out of the prayer, renew his ablution and build on what he had already prayed, based on the hadith: “Vomiting and nosebleeds do not nullify the prayer. So, if the person praying comes out of the prayer due to either of them, he should perform ablution and build on his prayer.” Perhaps this hadith is the most authentic of that which has been said in this respect.
And Allah Almighty is the Most High, and He knows best. |
