THE FIQH DEPARTMENT

In the Name of Allah, The Most Beneficent, The Most Merciful.
Although every Fiqh opinion is based on evidence, often times, the scholars differ in their views. This room for differences is a mercy from Allah, and as long as there is evidence to support an opinion, then we must respect scholars' views, even if we may not always agree.
The Prophet (SAW) said:
"Whoever performs Ijtihad and errs will receive one reward. Whoever performs Ijtihad and arrives at the correct answer gets double the reward"

Question:

If a man were a traveller and was shortening his prayer, can he pray the Witr prayer or not? Please give us a verdict concerning this

Answer:

Yes; he can pray the Witr prayer during the journey since the Prophet (Sallalaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) would pray the Witr prayer whilst on a journey as well as when he was resident. He would pray it on his riding beast no matter which direction it then turned. So he would pray the Witr prayer upon it, however; he would not pray the obligatory prayer upon it.
